Certification and Philosophy

All the training programs at Mountain Hooves & Paws use force-free, reward-based training. Gene and Kinna believe animals as well as people learn best when they are encouraged and praised for learning new behaviors. This is why they are professional members of the Karen Pryor Academy, Pet Dog Trainers of Europe (an international organization) and the IAABC. Kinna and Gene are AKC Canine Good Citizen and Puppy S.T.A.R. evaluators as of January 2018.

Kinna and Gene believe it’s important to be the best teachers possible in order to help your animals. They chose the Karen Pryor Academy for their professional animal training certification. Kinna graduated and became a certified training partner with the Karen Pryor Academy in July 2015 and Gene followed in May 2016.

Come and experience what it’s like to learn in a pressure-free environment at you and your animal’s personal pace. You’ll love this approach!

Commitment to Equality & Respect for Others:

Kinna and Gene desire to live in a world where humans are respected and treated equally by other humans regardless of their gender, skin color, and ethnic background.

They desire to live in a world where animals are respected for who they are and treated with compassion and dignity.

Gene and Kinna fully support the protection of wild areas on the planet as well as laws and regulations which minimize the human impacts on the earth. They believe humans should strive to live side by side with other species in a respectful and empathetic way.
